Jum Moore was born in Victoria just as the gold rushes therepetered out and depression hit the entire eastern half of thecontinent. A young Jum moved with his family to Boulder onthe West Australian goldfields at the turn of the last centurysearching for a better life. Hard work and sacrifice were justbeginning to bear fruit when Australia and the rest of the worldwere plunged into a war that was to decimate an entiregeneration. Jum and three of his brothers signed up to fight forKing and country and for an adventure on the other side of theworld.What transpired though, was an un-imagined catastrophe thatwould claim the life of three of the boys. Far from home andalready wounded himself, it would be his mothers love thatwould save him from France's killing fields and the dedicationof his childhood sweetheart that would help him survive thetraumatic after effects. With the most tumultuous and definingperiod of Australia's history swirling around him, Jum's luckwould see him through and enable him to start again to build alife after the war, a future denied to his three brothers and tomany of his fellow diggers.
